About the engineer

Martin Omwenga builds backend systems, and the platforms that keep them running

A fullstack and platform engineer in Nairobi, currently tech lead on platforms for European clients. This site is his portfolio, and also one of his projects: every demo below is live, checked every 15 minutes by a monitoring system he wrote.

Recent work includes preview environments for every pull request on Kubernetes, a two-way sync between an ordering platform and a Sage ERP, Node.js and Kafka services handling more than 10,000 requests a minute, and an AI assistant with tool use and retrieval, in production.

He works mostly in TypeScript (NestJS, Express) with PostgreSQL, Kafka, Kubernetes and Terraform, and holds the AWS Solutions Architect – Associate certification. Lighthouse, the system that publishes this page, is written in Go.

Exposed: inside the intelligence agency's briefing room, where secrets black out mid-sentence

The agency is fictional; the security is not. Three agents share one live document, and the moment one loses clearance, the classified words vanish from their screen.

In plain terms. Like a shared Google Doc where some words are classified. People without clearance see black bars, and a manager can take away someone's access while they're typing.

Under the hood. NestJS and Yjs over PostgreSQL row-level security. Hidden text never leaves the server, and open connections are re-authorized before a permission change commits. 600+ tests.

The website that monitors itself, logs its own failures and publishes the evidence

Every 15 minutes it checks each project on this page. When one goes down it opens an incident, writes up what happened, and closes the case when service returns. Nobody has to press a button.

In plain terms. A system that keeps watch over every project, notices when one goes down, records an incident and publishes what happened. It also checks a demo is up before opening it for you.

Under the hood. Go and PostgreSQL with row-level security, SSRF-safe probes, incidents opened by a state machine, property tests and fuzzing. Runs free on Cloud Run behind a Cloudflare edge, deployed without stored credentials.
